The end of the year is full of family gatherings, holiday parties and chitter-chatter of new year’s resolutions. As 2019 comes to a close we are provided an opportune time to take a look back at what we’ve accomplished this year and look forward to what the new year will bring.
What Happened in 2019?
There was a lot that happened in Bermuda Run during 2019 that only made this a better place to be. A new office building was constructed and Coffey Law opened up in Kinderton Park, thus creating a strong development in the private sector.
Additionally, the town came to an agreement to cost-share with the Hillsdale Group two new access streets into the Kinderton Business area. One of these streets is directed toward the potential for hotel development and the other is beside Tanglewood Pizza Company and adjacent to the new apartment complex, Comet at Bermuda Run.
A third accomplishment for the town in 2019 is the completed structure of sidewalks on Yadkin Valley Rd. that lead over to the Davie Medical Center. This creates easy access for Kinderton Village residents to use the walking trails and multi-use paths at Davie Medical whenever they need. This was a $187,000 investment that was made for the betterment of the community.
It’s rewarding to see all the work and improvements that have been made in the past 12 months, and it leads to eager anticipation for what’s to come.
What To Look For in Bermuda Run During 2020.
Comet at Bermuda Run
Comet at Bermuda Run is an apartment complex that is opening on West Kinderton that offers 1 and 2 bedroom apartment homes. There are 224 units in the complex and the complex is currently pre-leasing. The first move-ins are scheduled to happen in January of 2020.
Pedestrian Bridge
Behind Winmock, the Department of Transportation is replacing the pedestrian bridge which the town contributed 2.5 thousand dollars to enhance the structure to a metal truss bridge, giving it a nicer look. The goal of this new bridge is to allow families and participants at BB&T Sports Park the option to walk back and forth over the bridge, crossing the interstate, so they can get to one of our many local restaurants without the need of a car.
“Since we adopted our first comprehensive plan in 2012 and solidified the update in 2017, the town council has really been committed to connectivity,” said Lee Rollins, town manager. ” We don’t want I40 to be a physical impediment to our residential and commercial areas. We want to provide those connections to allow people to keep their car parked.”
Meg Brown Home Furnishings Expansion
The home furniture store we all love and know is expanding. Meg Brown is set to undergo an 8,000 square foot addition in 2020. This will create additional warehouse space and a clearance area for customers.
The Blue Heron Trail Project
The town has received funding to construct the first phase of the Blue Heron Trail project which will connect Kinderton Village at Lakeside Crossing to a tunnel that leads to 158 and access to many town amenities. This 2 million dollar project will begin construction in May 2020 and is part of the town’s comprehensive plan. This development will further the town’s goals of passive recreation activities where there is no need to use a car, therefore increasing connectivity.
US Soccer Academy Development Tournament
NC Fusion is hosting the US Soccer Academy Development Tournament during the spring of 2020. This tournament will host men and women’s teams who will be competing in BB&T Sports Park. Over 150 teams will come to compete, making this a truly national event and creating opportunities for our local businesses to serve numerous people.
How Can You Continue To Stay Informed?
As these projects continue to develop, you can stay informed of their progress and new opportunities that arise by visiting the town’s website at www.townofbr.com and also the town’s Facebook page. Updates and relevant news will be posted there that will allow you to be in the know.
